Title : Development of an optimization tool for well placement problem with evolutionary computation

Abstract :
Wells are employed in various kinds of fields as one of the effective tools to artificially control fluid flow in the underground. In a real project, employing cost-effective well placement is desired. Especially, to utilize the deep underground, such as petroleum industries and Carbon dioxide Capture and Storage (CCS), well placement needs to be optimized since the installation of the deep wells is very expensive. In this study, some optimum well placement problems were studied with an optimization tool combining evolutionary computation with numerical simulations. In this lecture, the current status of the tool development and its mathematical problems will be introduced.
